ABC recently conducted a poll of Americans and found that up to thirty per cent of them are canceling summer plans for travel. The main motivation behind their decision to stay at home this year? Gastronomical gas prices.

Bianca Mundy cancelled her plans for the summer. “”We were thinking about trying to drive to Kentucky to see my husband’s sister and from Kentucky, drive over to New York, but not gonna happen,” she said.

Darlene Debrow, a resident of Columbus concurs. “For the summer, they’ve really kind of penalized us a lot so we can’t go to places we would like to go and we just try to do things with the kids to keep them active,” she said.

Gas prices won’t keep all Americans at home, although it may force them to consider alternative vacation options such as cruises. Mandy Brenner of Columbus Travel specializes in cruises and says that they have become very popular and even economical, for large families looking to get away.

“On cruises, all of your meals are included, a lot of your activities are included, you know families just have to pay for optional excursions, it’s really one great low price,” she said.
