Edinburgh has always been a popular destination for a city holiday as well as being used as a jumping off point to explore other regions of Scotland. The Scottish capital is once again experiencing an increase in visitor traffic, especially through its airport, and a recent report by the Scotsman newspaper claims that the number of rooms available will not met the demand if something is not done soon.
The report claims that by 2013, the airport will need over 1500 new rooms to cope with the amount of people coming through and needing accommodation close to the airport. The area that needs the most expansion are two and three star rooms, about two thirds of the total number of projected rooms needed.
An Edinburgh Airport spokesperson, in a interview with the newspaper said, ‘We consider the need for additional hotel provision, both on airport and offsite, to be a key requirement to provide our growing number of passengers with a range of quality and choice.”
