Frontier Airlines has announced that it will do away with its current policy regarding standing by for a flight and also update its policy regarding reservation change fees. For passengers wanting to change from their scheduled flight to another flight on the same day, they will be given a confirmed seat, subject to availability, and be charged the difference in price between their original flight and the new flight, if there is any.

“This new policy adds convenience for our customers who need to change their travel last minute,” noted Sean Menke, president and CEO of Frontier. “Anyone who has tried to fly standby without a confirmed seat knows the frustration of not knowing if you will make the flight. With this new policy, customers will immediately know if they have a seat or not.”

Confirming seating for all flights eliminates delays incurred by seating standby passengers at the last minute. The policy change will also allow the carrier to better track customer demand – which will be reflected in its flight schedules.

Members of Frontier’s EarlyReturns program, at the Summit level, will be able to change to another flight on the same day of travel, receiving a confirmed seat, at no additional charge.

The airline also announced that passengers who change their reservations online in advance of their travel date will be charged a $150 fee for the change, plus any difference in the price for the new flight. This will apply on all ticket purchases after July 25, 2008 for travel that occurs beginning August 15, 2008. .
