Travel agencies are starting to experience the World Cup frenzy as many people are rushing up to buy the wide range of travel packages and travel reservation available.

Throughout the weekend, travel agents have been caught up in the excitement as football fans have been consistently calling them to book flight tickets and accommodation in South Africa. The largest batch of tickets yet to go on sale was recorded in a short period of time. The number is expected to climb to as high as one million tickets.

Fifty-five thousand tickets were sold in the first two hours alone. Judging by the tremendous response that the World Cup is receiving, the FIFA general secretary Jerome Valcke is confident that the coming World Cup will be spectacular. Officials had announced that it did not expect to fill up all of its 308,000 seats at the matches. Seats reserved for corporate hospitality guests would be turned in for the general public as the economic downturn has ensured companies cutting extravagant costs.

Many travel companies however are expecting to sell out their 10,000 packages fully within a few days. Tui Travel as well as Thomas Cook have announced that they have sold out almost all of their packages for the World Cup. British Airways will be introducing 14 new flights to South Africa to accommodate the extra load of passengers.
