Free Mexico holidays to anyone contracting H1N1 at Real Resorts

A number of hotels at Mexican resorts are attempting to restore visitor confidence by offering free holidays to anyone contracting swine flu while staying at their properties.

The scheme involves three hotel chains, and is being led by Real Resorts – the owner of three resort hotels in Cancun and Playa del Carmen.

According to the offer, any guest contracting the H1N1 flu virus within two weeks of staying at one of its hotels in Cancun or Playa del Carmen will receive three years of free holidays.

The general director of Real Resorts, Fernando García Zalvidea, stresses that holidaymakers should not be concerned about visiting Mexico. According to the company executive, hygiene is a top priority has been a top priority at Cancun’s airport, and the area’s buses, taxis, restaurants and shopping malls have all been sanitised.

Dream and Secret are the other two Mexican resort chains that have joined Real Resorts in the swine flu-free guarantee scheme.

Real Resorts has also reduced its room rates by as much as 40 per cent, meaning that all-inclusive accommodation is available from £59 per night, and it is offering discounts on dining, drinks and spa treatments of up to 50 per cent.

According to market research group GfK Ascent-MI, holiday bookings to Mexico fell by 83 per cent the week after news of the swine flu outbreak hit the news internationally.
