Finding alternative ways to get to vacation homes
Posted on: August 11th, 2008 by Bobby V-JonesThose who purchased vacation homes abroad are facing new challenges as low cost air carriers are cancelling flights at growing rates. People that once were able to take a quick flight to their second home now have to take long car rides and or endure layovers at airports while waiting for connecting flights as alternative ways to get to their homes.
One couple in London bought a vacation home in France expecting to be able to take advantage of Ryanair’s inexpensive flights to the city where their second home is located. They also hoped that they could rent their home to fellow Britons who could also easily travel with Ryanair. Due to rising fuel costs and a weakened economy Ryanair announced that it would cancel its flights for the winter to the city which leaves the couple trying to figure out how to continue vacationing at their home in France. The couple said that “This will have a serious impact. If Ryanair decides to cut back the summer schedule, then we really will be profoundly affected. It is vital for prospective tenants that we are near an airport and that there are plenty of flights.”
The head of Chester-ton International Estate Agency, Andrew Hawkins, has said of the issue that “Ease of access has always been key to second-home ownership overseas.”
One person not bothered by this type of struggle is the Chief Executive Office for Ryanair, Michael O’Leary. He said “Please don’t ask me to feel sorry for rich people with second homes in France.”
