Eurostar speeds to Brussels

The Eurostar track to the Belgian capital and seat of the European Union parliament Brussels, has been under construction for sometime and now the inaugural journey has taken place. And it happened very quickly.

A new record was set when the train sped to the new St. Pancras train station in London from the lowlands in under two hours. One hour and forty-two minutes to be exact, and the top speed was 186 mph.

Eurostar chief executive Richard Brown spoke proudly of the accomplishment: “Today’s journey puts London to Brussels firmly within the two-hour club.”

Another record between Paris and London was set using the new set of high-speed tracks that cost £5.8 billion. The new tracks on the UK side speed things up considerably since they avoid busy lines that are used by other trains going through Kent. Using St. Pancras instead of Waterloo Station is also a contributing factor in the 20 minutes shaved off the travel time.

Tickets to Brussels and Paris will be available from 70 UK stations starting form November.
