After 13 years of service, the Eurostar train that runs under the English Channel between The United Kingdom and continental Europe has moved its base from Waterloo station to the newly renovated St. Pancras station.
There was a closing celebration of sorts on the international departures concourse, with a ceremony involving dancers and live music to commemorate the 13 years of operation form Waterloo Station. The move took place overnight over a 15-hour period.
CEO of Eurostar Richard Brown commented, “We are celebrating 13 momentous years since the birth of Eurostar, and I want to thank all those who have supported us, travelled with us and worked alongside us. We are hugely proud to have developed into the world’s leading international train operator, and pleased that the millions of travellers that we have brought through our terminal have also helped in the local regeneration of the Waterloo and South Bank areas.”
Since the trains first started running in 1994, over 81 million passengers have made use of the service on 230,000 trains. The schedule now includes over 15 daily departures to Paris and 10 to Brussels.
