European youth keen to work abroad

An unlikely instigator for a survey of youth travel habits, McDonald’s Europe has commissioned poll gatherers Populus to conduct a survey called the ‘McPassport’ poll. Whatever the motivations by the fast-food giant, the findings show that 56% of European between the ages of 16 to 25 cite the prospect of working abroad as a motivator to accept a job post.
The data was gathered across seven European countries; Italy, France, Germany, Spain, Sweden, Poland and the United Kingdom. The top countries with youth wanting to travel for a job were Italy with 62% saying they’d like to go abroad and the number one was Poland with 72%. The least likely to leave their home country were the Spanish, with only 44% of those surveyed interested in working abroad.
The McPassport scheme began last year with the restaurant giving a certificate that is valid as proof of skills at any McDonald’s restaurant in the European Union. The chief human resources officer at McDonald’s Europe, Cecile Staner says, “McPassport has become an integral part of McDonald’s commitment to being a good employer. The scheme reaches beyond the basics – it caters perfectly for our workforce, many of which are young adults, and, as the survey shows, are keen to broaden their horizons through travel.’
