Enjoy a shower on your next flight with Emirates Airlines
Posted on: August 17th, 2008 by Bobby V-JonesStarting on August 1 Emirates Airlines introduced its new Airbus A380 and there is something new in its first class section. Passengers will now find a shower in their bathroom. The duration of the shower for each passenger is five minutes. There is a light in the shower stall that turns color to indicate how much time in remaining.
The President of Emirates Airlines, Tim Clark, said “International premium travelers are highly aspirational. You have passengers coming out of luxury hotels, and you can’t have them getting into something that comes out of the dark ages in terms of the airplane.”
The design for the layout for the A380 was completed before fuel cost sky rocketed. Speaking about the design Clark said “In those days, of course, we didn’t have fuel at the price it is now. But in terms of the long-haul mission and, bearing in mind that we wanted to again raise the bar on first class, we decided on showers.”
“We fly into Houston on a daily basis with our 777s, which have eight first-class suites and 42 business seats, and they’re full all the time because you have all the oil traffic coming through, both ways,” said Clark speaking about the occupancy of first class suites.
Daily service from Dubai to New York City on board the new Boeing A380 will begin starting on October 1 of this year. Currently the flight is running three times a week.
