English tourist dies in NZ river
Posted on: April 30th, 2008 by Dave BessThe Antipodean country of New Zealand attracts thousands of thrill-seeking tourists every year that come for excitement and adventure in the beautiful landscapes of this magical land. Tragedy befell an English tourist yesterday however, as she became trapped between two rocks while riverboarding in fast moving body of water on the South Island.
A tourist group headed out from the popular tourist resort town of Queenstown, towards the Kawarau River Gorge, and a 21-year old English woman was submerged under the water as she became trapped between the rocks. It took guides 20 minutes to free her, and despite CPR being performed on the shore, paramedics on the scene were unable to revive her.
Stephen Ereckson, sergeant of the local police department said that the flow of the river was normal for the time of year and the incident would be fully investigated. The woman’s name was not immediately released, as police have not yet notified the woman’s next of kin.
