England Going to World Cup Knockout Round after Slovenia Win

England has finally shown up at the World Cup by winning their third match against Slovenia. The team had been put in 3rd place in Group C after draws with USA and Algeria earlier in the tournament. However, this victory has placed them in 2nd, which means they will get to move on to the Round of 16, which is the knockout round, where they will meet Germany.

Although both teams played well, England was the one to score the only point, giving them the 1-0 victory over Slovenia. Tottenham Hotspur striker Jermain Defoe made the winning goal during the 23rd minute. England continued controlling the game after that and were close to scoring more.

After the game, Defoe said he was lost for words, as this was a big moment since he has dreamed of scoring in the World Cup since he was a young lad. He had another chance to score during the second half, he continued, and was really disappointed that he didn’t do better. He is delighted, however, that they won, he added.

Defoe says that he was really focused prior to the match. They had to win this match, he continued, so they went in with a different approach. They planned to set the tempo, pressure Slovenia and started to pass the ball after the goal, he added, calling the approach brilliant.
