Emirates had a grand launch of the A380 at Bay Area, San Francisco, befitting the magnificent aircraft. Bathrooms in the plane are equipped with showers and temperature controlled floors. Televisions at twenty three inch size offer a choice of audio and video programmes across 1200 channels. Sleeping areas are compartmentalized with in-built make-up mirrors and tiny bars that slide out soundlessly.

Around two hundred heads of travel and holiday organisations were taken on a preview flight for two hours to experience the Airbus A380. A huge aircraft, designed on two levels, it made people go into raptures after the experience of flying. Mark Ludwig, head of Air Treks compared the A380 to a cruising experience and said it was unbelievable. This purchase of sophisticated aircraft by Emirates is in direct opposition to the present scenario in the U.S. airline industry. Spiraling fuel expenses have led airline companies to increase passenger costs in turn, charging for basic amenities like bottled water.

The A380 which is manufactured by European company Airbus has been commissioned in 200 numbers. The A380 apart from its luxurious features consumes less fuel when compared to big-sized planes like Boeing 747s.

Emirates have placed the order for 58 out of these 60 aircraft and will be shelling out $327 million per piece. Though Emirates eventually plans to have flying services between San Francisco International Airport and Dubai, it will be presently limiting itself to flights between New York and Dubai. As Emirates senior spokesperson said, the company would like to take small steps before launching into long distance flights.
