Emirates cuts journey time from Glasgow to Sydney
Posted on: October 2nd, 2009 by Doug SmithEmirates has announced plans to significantly reduce travel time between Glasgow and the Australian city of Sydney. Residents of Scotland will soon find that the journey to Sydney will take less than a day.
Emirates’ Glasgow to Sydney flights previously took over 30 hours to complete their total journey, including the stop-over time in Dubai. Beginning December 1 2009, Emirates will now introduce a new route on the on the Sydney to Dubai link, which will help passengers departing from Glasgow Airport to arrive in Sydney in 22 hours and 25 minutes. The flights arriving from Glasgow will depart for Sydney within 75 minutes of reaching Dubai, the airline has said.
Now less than 24 hours away, the flights will make travel between the two cities a much more convenient option. Laury Berryman, Emirates’ UK north manager has said that Australia is a key destination for travellers from Scotland, for both business and leisure purposes. With this new service, the trip Down Under will become quicker than ever before, Berryman has said.
The benefits of the shorter travel time to Sydney will likely be enjoyed by travellers from outside Scotland too. Glasgow Airport authorities had recently revealed that thousands of travellers from England were choosing to fly through the airport, lured by its significantly cheaper fares.
Emirates has, in the past few months, made several expansions in its Australian network. This year the airline has launched a series of extra flights from Dubai to other cities in Australia, like Brisbane and Melbourne.
