Egypt set to become more connected
Posted on: July 30th, 2007 by Neill ZerkA new project by WIESC, funded by USAID is working to make it easier to access the internet in Egypt, particularly in its most touristic areas. The most recent step has been to offer WiFi wireless internet access to places in Luxor, Naama Bay and Sharm El Sheikh.
Egypt’s technology sector has seen a boom recently, so WIESC is expanding connectivity both for the sake of tourists and to provide work for the up and coming industry.
Marketing advisor for USAID, Nihal Soliman states: “The WIESC project brings Egypt in line with an experience of high speed data travelling over greater distances. We’re very excited to announce that our WiFi technology networks are up and running in these key Egyptian cities, allowing everyone the opportunity to experience the reliability and speed of the network.“
The massive tourist draw of the ancient city of Luxor has made it one of the first destinations to install WiFi networks all around the city, making surfing the internet or any other online activity possible from just about anywhere in the city.
At Sharm El Sheikh, a popular beach resort, visitors can stay connected anywhere between their hotel rooms and the beach with lightning quick internet conections.
