Edinburgh airport offers haggis reprieve
Posted on: January 21st, 2009 by Dave HumphriesEdinburgh Airport passengers are being offered a free meal is they are willing to participate in haggis “amnesty” programme.
Many overseas visitors to Scotland are not aware of their home country’s restrictions on bringing meat products back home, and risk having their souvenir haggis taken away from them on their return home.
Air passengers will be treated to a real taste of Scotland if they surrender their haggis before checking in for their flight.
The reprieve runs from Friday through Sunday.
Holidaymakers and business travellers are being extended this offer by the Hilton Edinburgh Airport. Any uncooked haggis can be swapped for a traditional Burns Supper featuring haggis, neeps and tatties – along with a ‘wee dram’ of the country’s whisky.
Airline passengers will need to present their tickets along with the haggis in order to take advantage of the hotel’s special deal, offered at the Hilton Edinburgh Airport restaurant.
The general manager at the Hilton Edinburgh Airport, Michael Squire, said: “Haggis is an icon in Scotland, and we want to allow everyone visiting the country to have had the chance to sample the Bard’s namesake dish for Burns night.”
