Disney cruises finally add fuel surcharge
Posted on: April 29th, 2008 by Jamie BarnettThe price of oil just keeps hitting new record highs, and every industry dependent on petrol is feeling the crunch. Airlines have buckled, survivors have merged, and in the cruise industry, most cruise lines have had to add fuel surcharges on to the regular ticket prices. One cruise line that has held out as long as possible is Disney Cruises, but this week the company has had to face up to economic reality and tack on the extra bucks to its tickets.
The surcharge will affect the first two people in a cabin, who will be charged an additional $3 per person per day. The company says that for the first two people, the surcharge won’t exceed $112 each. The rush of fuel surcharges on cruise lines began last November when the price of oil hit the $100 mark. After the addition of the surcharges, two cruise lines, Celebrity and Royal Caribbean said they would increase the surcharge from $5 to $8 per day, per person, also for the first two people in a cabin.
