Cruise Industry still successful despite current economy
Posted on: June 12th, 2008 by Andrew MayerUnlike many of the other industries surrounding leisure travel and tourism, the cruise industry according to recent studies is doing well and considered quite healthy. The CLIA – Cruise Lines International Association completed a study that was released today which highlights the fact the cruise industry can expect increased growth and is in a great position for the future. The survey is conducted online by receiving information from 2,426 individuals.
The industry receives the greatest amount of its business through the use of travel agents. The success of the cruise industry unlike the other tourist related markets is linked to its diversity of interests. Terry Dale who is the CEO of Cruise Line International Associate commented about the cruise industry, “Their high satisfaction with a wonderfully diverse cruise product drives their intention to take more cruises. In fact, cruisers represent the ideal travel prospect, because of their broad interest in all types of travel and willingness to spend on what they perceive to be high value experiences.”
Some of the other findings in the study showed 77% of those who have taken a cruise, plan to take another within the next 3 years. Helping the success of cruises is also that 94.8% of those on the survey responded that their experience with the cruise was satisfying. Cruise vacations were considered to have high value based on the cost. With negative feedback often plaguing the hotel and air industries, the cruise industry has managed to remain a tourist delight and from the research appears to remain so in the future.
