Couples can now exchange vows on the Concorde
Posted on: October 2nd, 2009 by Dave BessWhile the supersonic jet is no longer offering fans the mind-boggling opportunity to have same-day lunches in London and New York, the Concorde jet still carries that glamorous feel, 40 years after it made its first historic flight.
The now retired jet sits majestically in the Brooklands Museum at Weyridge, Surrey, and its managers are keen to see the Concorde shine in the light again. Jan Knott, business manager for Brookland’s Concorde explained that when the Concorde was still flying at supersonic speed, they were inundated with requests from people who wanted to get married on the jet.
Knott says that while it wasn’t possible then, couples can now exchange their vows in style, aboard the Concorde. Knott says the jet represents a lot of things for many people, from aviation enthusiasts to wistful former passengers and those who watched the jet fly overhead.
The retired Concorde jet has now been awarded a license for weddings, and couples can walk down the swankiest aisle there ever was. The jet is able to accommodate around 32 guests, including the couple, on board. While airline meals will not be part of the itinerary, weddings couples will be able to hold their reception below the Concorde’s wings.
For a while now, Brooklands has been allowing couples who’ve recently tied the knot at other locations in the museum to visit the cockpit of the Concorde. Having now received its own licensing, the jets managers are hoping they will soon be hosting a wedding aboard the jet itself.
