Gatwick Airport is hoping to clean up its parking lots and terminal building by introducing a new coin drop system on their luggage trolleys. But requiring a coin deposit on the trolley, the airport officials are hoping that they will not be left around the airport but will be returned to designated locations.

The new system will begin on October 17th. Passengers can use £1, a 25 cent American coin or a reusable BA disk to get access to a luggage trolley. When passengers return their trolley to the trolley collection point, their money is refunded.

Customer Service Director for BAA Gatwick, David Stretch, said, “We believe that the changes we are introducing will help us provide passengers with trolleys where they need them, when they need them. The new scheme will prevent our trolleys being scattered across the airport and beyond and make sure they are available to passengers”.

In order to prepare for the changes, the airport is working hard to set up both the trolley collection points as well as change machines in both airport terminals.
