City men go for ruggedly handsome outdoor look
Posted on: October 14th, 2007 by Bobby V-JonesWhether you are hitting the mountains for a fishing trip or you just want to look cool, outdoor gear, especially for men, is becoming increasingly fashionable in the city streets.
Today you can find parkas by Prada alongside a dozen brand name labels in the outdoor section of your favorite hiking store.
David Makuen, vice president of marketing for Eddie Bauer said to Forbes that “George Clooney, Matthew McConaughey, even Brad Pitt really made an impact on casual clothing, with their rough-around-the-edges looks. The unshaven, dishevelled look became mass, and it inevitably had an affect on clothes.”
For those intending on some serious outdoor adventures, investing in a good jacket just makes good sense. The material and quality of the item is of utmost importance when you are scaling some mountain height with icy winds ripping at your limbs.
However, investing in a $1325 Loro Piana Outdoorsman Vest at Bergdorf Goodman merely for the sake of pulling off the “ruggedly handsome” look when the most outdoor exposure you get is between your apartment and your Mercedes, just seems a little silly.
