Celebrity Cruises go smoke free
Posted on: April 14th, 2008 by Bobby V-JonesA new policy will be put into action by Celebrity Cruises on October 1st, banning smoking on their ships in staterooms and on balconies as well. The number of public smoking areas will also be reduced. The new rules come after Celebrity polled its customers and found that many felt that smoking onboard should be more restricted. President and CEO of Celebrity Cruises Dan Hanrahan says, “We are proud to be the first premium cruise line to set a new standard towards creating an environment of cleaner air on our ships. We pay careful attention to what our guests have to say, and approximately 90 percent of them have told us they are non-smokers. By increasing the number of smoke-free areas onboard while still designating areas for those who smoke, our aim is to make the onboard experience as pleasant as possible for all of our guests.”
Smokers will still have designated outdoor and indoor areas on the port side of the ships where they are free to smoke, and smoking in non-designated areas will result in a $250 fine.
