Hong Kong-based Cathay Pacific Airlines has received 23 new 777-300ER aircraft from Boeing to enhance its planes on long haul routes. The first route to take advantage of the improved aircraft is flight CX418 from Hong Kong to Seoul tomorrow, as an initial tester before being put to use on important long haul flights like the direct flght to New York which will begin on November 15th.

The 777-30ER will provide exactly what ER stands for- extended range which will allow Cathay to fly more people in the new cabin design directly to far-away destinations. The fuel economy of the new Boeings will also be an improvement from previous models.

Tony Tyler, Chief Executive Officer of Cathay Pacific says, “We are delighted to receive our first Boeing 777-300ER, which marks the beginning of a new phase of expansion for Cathay Pacific and a further boost for the continued development of the Hong Kong hub.

These are superb aircraft that will form the backbone of our long-haul fleet in the coming years and enable us to strengthen our non-stop ultra-long-haul services, particularly to North America. They are very efficient aircraft, too, and we will see a big reduction in fuel burn, which is very important in these environmentally conscious times.”
