On Saturday, budget airline bmibaby launched its first flight between Cardiff Airport and Barcelona. The route will operate twice a week and increase to three times a week on June 18th.

The flights are currently offered every Tuesday and Saturday and will add a Wednesday flight later in the summer.

One way tickets are already on sale and start at £24.99, including taxes and charges.

Bmibaby’s managing director, Crawford Rix, said: “Barcelona is a popular destination from our other UK bases. Now travellers in Wales have easy access to this stylish and dynamic city too. The inaugural flight is 95 percent full and forward bookings are extremely encouraging.”

Bmibaby currently operates flights to 13 destinations from Cardiff Airport including Edinburgh, Alicante, Malaga, Gdansk, Faro, and Palma.

With the pound performing well, vacationing to Spain has become very popular, despite cooling economic conditions. The country is home to many holiday houses and is easy to reach either by budget airlines like bmibaby, or by ferry.

For many travelers to Spain, Barcelona is a convenient gateway to exploring the rest of the country including the beautiful coastline and the exciting city of Madrid.
