For many travellers today, the issue of how much carbon dioxide their actions release into the atmosphere is an important factor in planning a trip. Many airlines have systems in place where passengers can offset their carbon footprints by donating money to carbon offset schemes, which can be tree planting projects, research into renewable energy, or existing systems of alternative energy.

Europcar has taken the step to make its customers aware of how much pollution they will be responsible for when renting a car with information about how much CO2 their rental choice will be responsible for under normal driving conditions. Knowing exactly how much CO2 your rental car will be releasing into the environment is currently available to customers in the United Kingdom, with car hire agencies in other countries soon set to follow suit.

Europcar UK’s fleet director Tim Bailey is confident that other car rental companies will soon be offering similar services, assuring customers that Europcar is committed to the environment. For those wondering which car in Europcar’s fleet is indeed the most environmentally friendly will notice that the lowest carbon emissions come from the three-door Peugeot 107 hatchback.

A good reason to use Europcar then, wonder if they cost more to rent their cars than other companies? That is usually the case when companies go ‘green’ they make the excuse to put their prices up and a lot of potential customers just laugh at them and don’t use their services,

exactly just what apparatus will be in the car telling their customers how green they are?

Is it only just CO2 that people wanna know about? What about exhaust and other waste products that are emittede from the engine and / or exhaust?
