Car Parks with Solar Panel Roofs

All across the UK, governments and councils have been coming up with ways for the country to step up their use of renewable resources. In the latest proposals, there are talks of fitting solar panels to car parks and public buildings’ roofs.

The city council of Kingston upon Hull, has identified 4 car parks where they want to put solar panels on the roofs to help power buildings. Doing this will not only save them money from buying electricity, but it could also help them raise money by selling any surplus power to the National Grid. Right now, the authority is conducting a study to see if this idea is feasible.

Councillor Dave Woods, Hull City Council’s environment portfolio holder, says that talks have been underway about capitalizing on the green revolution. They have sought out ways to generate more renewable power, he continued, and this proposal makes sense because they will be able to sell any surplus.

There are many other councils in Wales and England that are looking to use solar panels to produce electricity and make money as well. They are talking about installing them on the roofs of all public buildings, which could earn £100 million per year.

Gary Porter, the Local Government Association Environment Board’s chairman, said that councils have leisure centres, community facilities, offices, depots and more – all of which could be used as stations to generate green power. This money could then be used to lower taxes, he added, which is seeing a lot of enthusiasm in town halls.
