Car insurance: comprehensive may be best
Posted on: June 7th, 2007 by Emily WelchWith the cost of petrol only ever going up, it can be very tempting to try and cut the cost of a car rental by declining some of the insurance. But experts are saying that comprehensive car insurance is not only the safest bet, it could also save money in the long run.
The chief executive of Insurancewide.com, James Harrison said, “The type of cover you choose can have a significant impact on the cost of your motor insurance and of your overall driving costs.
“Doing your homework could save you hundreds of pounds.”
Since the premiums charged by insurance companies vary according to a number of factors, extensive research should be undertaken in order to compare options, find the best deal and get the best coverage. Age, driving history and occupation are commonly used to determine the cost of car insurance, but factors like your post code and parking arrangements can also make a difference.
A recent study by Inrancewide.com, showed that comprehensive car insurance for people under the age of 35 with a car valued less than £2,500 ranged between £400 and £500.
In comparison, some people with only third party, fire and theft (TPFT) coverage were paying much more, up to £700 in some cases.
Comprehensive insurance, the survey revealed, could also benefit people whose driving habits are minimal and who have good car security.
