Business travel to London made easy
Posted on: November 8th, 2007 by Emily WelchBusiness travel to London just got easier with the recent opening of London’s St Pancras Station. The Queen formally reopened the station in a ceremony held on Tuesday.
With the reopening of the station, business travel between England and the Continent, particularly to locations such as France and Belgium, just got easier. Eurostar has switched its terminal to the more centrally located station and is closing down its operations in Waterloo.
St Pancras station has been closed in order to clean and refurbish it. Stained with the dirt of 150 years worth of trains, the historic architecture and gothic style will once again welcome travelers to England’s heart.
The total cost of the station’s refurbishment was £800 million and the project took six years to complete.
High speed trains will be able to take passengers from London to Brussels in one hour and 15 minutes. Trains traveling up to 300 kilometers per hour will shuttle passengers from London to Paris in two hours and 15 minutes.
Now equipped with wireless internet access and fitted out with touch screen monitors, the station is completely modernized. A five-star hotel is located just in front of the station and is scheduled to open in 2009.
“The restoration and extension of iconic St Pancras station is a tremendous boost for London,” Visit London chief executive, James Bidwell stated.
“St Pancras International is not only the new, spectacular home of Eurostar but also a grand retail and hospitality destination which will welcome many millions of visitors to London in great style.
“The culmination of the ten year St Pancras restoration project is a truly historic moment for London and symbolic of our great city as we prepare for 2012.”
