Amadeus Training Academy and the Bahrain Training Institute (BTI) have just announced that they have signed a joint agreement to launch programmes in travel management.

Amadeus will offer in-depth training to BTI Travel Academy students on the use of its global distribution system.

Courses are scheduled to begin in September 2008, and will provide a combination of classroom and online lessons that will allow students to build their skills and competitiveness for entering the country’s fast-growing travel industry.

“There is a growing demand for recognised travel management courses tailored for the local market,” said the head of BTI Travel Academy, Jalil Al Mansi.

“With the industry growing rapidly we need more professionally trained manpower to support the local travel sector. BTI is committed to bringing the highest standards of vocational training to equip Bahrain’s labour force with job specific skills.”

“The partnership between BTI and Amadeus serves the mission of the Labour Ministry to groom young Bahrainis to assume supervisory and managerial positions in the travel and tourism industry,” he added.

“As a technology leader in the travel industry, our goal is to ensure that tomorrow’s leaders have the skills to compete not just in the Middle East but internationally as well,” noted the managing director of Amadeus Gulf, Ghulam Saleh Al Bloushi.

“Through the training academy, we hope to maintain a mutually beneficial long-term relationship with the travel industry professionals, by contributing technology and knowledge.”

According to a recent report issued by the civil aviation authority, Bahrainisation is only two per cent of the travel sector, Mr Al Mansi commented, but it is the objective of the Academy to raise this number to five per cent.
