Briton arrested for sex on Dubai beach rearrested
Posted on: December 24th, 2008 by Darren RobinsonVince Acors, a 34-year-old Londoner was scheduled to fly from Dubai airport to Heathrow on Monday after being deported from the Gulf state. At the airport in Dubai, however, he was detained and returned to jail, with officials saying that the confirmation for his flight was “not in order,” according to the British Press Association.
Acors and Michelle Palmer, a 36-year-old woman, also from Britain, were charged with unmarried sex and public indecency when they were arrested on a Dubai beach. The pair was sentenced to three months in jail, but the sentences were appealed and suspended.
The man was due to return to the UK at the end of last week, but there was a delay in the deportation process, so that he was unable to board his flight and had to remain in jail over the weekend, the Press Association report continued.
Andrew Crossley, Acors’ lawyer, said: “The return of Vince Acors has been delayed yet again and he will not be returning to the UK. The situation is close to becoming farcical and Vince is severely disappointed.”
Crossley added: “After having booked and confirmed his return flight on three separate occasions through the course of the day Vince was re-arrested at Dubai Airport, as his flight confirmation was allegedly not in order. He has been returned to jail, his precise return is now unknown.”
On 5 July, shortly after midnight, Acors and Palmer were arrested on a public beach and charged by police with public intoxication, illicit relations and public indecency. In October, they were found guilty by a Dubai court and fined them 1,000 dirhams on the public indecency charge.
