British travellers drugged and raped while on Thailand holiday
Posted on: December 1st, 2009 by Dave BessTwo Brits have reportedly fallen victims to a terrible Clockwork Orange-style sexual attack while on trip in Thailand. The British couple had selected the holiday island of Koh Chang to round off an unforgettable one-year vacation from their jobs.
But last week, the couple flew away from Thailand after they were subjected to a night of horror, in which they were drugged and raped by a group they suspect preying on foreign travellers. The Brits requested not to be fully identified.
It was reported that for the last few days, the couple were left nearly motionless in their bungalows as their memories returned. They had earlier contacted the police, but when nobody went to visit them, the couple decided to go to a nearby hospital to be examined by medical specialists.
One of the assault victims, known as Richard, narrated the incident to the doctors, who instantly guessed right away what had happened. The doctors said that the Brits were showing the symptoms of having taken a date drug Dormicum. Examinations also confirmed that both tourists had been sexually abused.
During an interview, the Thai Police strenuously denied that they were not taking the couple’s complaint seriously. The Thai authority informed that an investigation is now underway.
The couple said that they also contacted the British Embassy earlier, but the representative whom they met was not interested on the issue either. However, a spokesman from the embassy denied the accusations, saying that the consular team in Bangkok had kept in touch with the couple throughout to provide help and advice. He further added that the embassy is now following up the issue with the Thai authorities.
