British tourists continue to visit Mumbai
Posted on: December 1st, 2008 by Dave BessAirlines and travel operators have reported few cancellations in the wake of the terrorist attacks in India’s financial capital, Mumbai.
It seems that plans by travellers from the UK to India have mostly been unaffected by last week’s storming of two major upscale hotels and several other venues, leading to more than 130 dead and several hundred injured.
Holiday companies and air carriers are reporting a small percentage of trips cancelled. British Airways operates service to Mumbai twice daily, and a spokesman has said that flights were departing “full,” although the airline is offering alternative dates and destinations to its passengers.
Indus Travel, a specialist in India travel, said that a few travellers had called regarding the situation in Mumbai, but that overall, its customers were not all that concerned.
“We are very encouraged by the support we have received from British travellers,” commented Yasin Zargar, the managing director of Indus Travel.
“India is a large country, and largely safe. Our customers share this opinion,” Zargar added.
A Kuoni Travel spokeswoman commented that the operator had received no cancellations for India destinations, and Thomas Cook indicated that none of its customers travelling to India in January, on an itinerary including Mumbai, has cancelled or called to rearrange their tour.
