British Airways announces change in winter schedule and price increases
Posted on: August 19th, 2008 by Rosie Vaughan-JonesBritish Airways has announced plans to rearrange its current schedule. For those that have already booked their winter vacation, they could be affected by the changes. For those that have not booked their vacation they will likely see a noticeable increase in the price. It is expected that British Airways will eliminate up to 5 per cent of its flights this winter
If you are a business traveler you can breathe a sigh of relief. British Airways said it plans to focus on leisure flights like short trips within Europe. A spokesperson for British Airways said of the changes: “We’re planning to implement the cuts in a way that will have the least effect on passengers. If, for example, we cut a flight from Heathrow, we will make sure there’s an alternative departure from Gatwick, and we’ll be trying not to cancel the last flight of the day from anywhere.”
Customers are having doubts to the schedule changes announced by British Airways. One customer, Richard Stokes, who has a vacation planned this winter and will be flying with the airline said “It’s not particularly reassuring. Switching departure airports is bad enough – and whenever BA says it’s planning changes to have the least effect on passengers, it’s a disaster.”
Responding to customer fears British Airway’s head of leisure sales in the UK, Adam Daniels, said “We will reaccommodate passengers where we can.”
An announcement is expected this week that a flight on British Airways will cost around 4 per cent more. The spokesperson for the airline said “Prices are going to go up, either through surcharges or fare increases.”
