Britain basks in warm late summer
Posted on: October 27th, 2009 by Charlotte FellowsAfter a wash-out of the traditional summer months, when many tourists who stayed home to ‘staycation’ were disgruntled because of incessant rains, Britain is finally looking to have a good summer—in autumn.
The Met Office has revealed that the UK may be enjoying even higher temperatures than Corfu, news that will be welcomed by Britain’s staycation industry. The office has said temperature all over the UK are set to be seven degrees higher than normal for this time of the year, with Thursday’s temperatures expected to hit 21C (70F).
Families getting together at the half-term break will no doubt also welcome the sunny news. It is expected that even night-time temperatures may be in the double figures, most unusual for this season. The Met Office has predicted night-time temperatures between 13-14C for this weekend.
Nature lovers are especially thrilled with the unexpected Indian Summer, and the beautiful hues it lends to the falling autumn foliage.
If the forecasted warm weather does indeed extend into November, this would be great news for Britain’s local tourism industry. Many travellers had expressed their disgust earlier this ‘summer’ when the rains ruined their home-stay vacations. Several travellers had confessed they would be trying for sunny weather abroad next year.
Britain’s staycation industry has had an unexpected fillip from the economic recession. As thousands of UK travellers were forced to cut back on their holiday spending amidst the global downturn, many opted to holiday at various locations in Britain rather than take their traditional holiday abroad.
The rain played spoilsport all this summer, however, and Britain’s tourism will be no doubt welcome the sunny October-November forecast.
