Royal Caribbean is introducing their new ship, Oasis of the Seas.  It will be the largest cruise ship in the world and can carry 5,400 passengers.  The giant 220,000 ton ship is set to make her maiden voyage in December 2009.

Members of Royal Caribbean’s Diamond and Diamond Plus Crown & Anchor programs are getting the first opportunity to book their stay on the ship.  Starting on August 28 any passenger who has previously sailed with Royal Caribbean will be able to book a cruise on the Oasis of the Seas.  Everyone else will have their opportunity to book a cruise on the ship starting on September 3.

The associate vice president and general manager, Jo Rzymowska, is ecstatic at how well sales are going already.  She said “We’ve just done a booking for £40,000. A group of 17 people. All in suites!”

The cruise line is doing its share to make sure everyone knows that Oasis of the Seas is ready to start taking reservations.  Rzymowska said “On 3 September we will be direct-mailing 200,000 households — people who have inquired about Oasis, past passengers and Crown & Anchor members. And on 6 September we start a nationwide press campaign, which will run until mid-October.

“September is Thomas Cook cruise focus month, so every branch of Thomas Cook will have Oasis of the Seas imagery on display, including window displays and point-of-sale posters of cutaways of the ship that show the different neighborhoods.

“We’ll also have marketing packs and sales tools for other travel agency chains, both big and small, to tell people about the ship … Apart from everything else, there are 37 different stateroom categories for them to learn about.”
