Baggage free flights?
Posted on: June 14th, 2007 by Jennifer JonesA new plan for baggage-free flying was discussed at a recent parliamentary conference in the UK. Transport Department officials met with members of the airport operator BAA and Members of Parliament to discuss the proposed scheme.
The plan would involve a system akin to parcel delivery for passenger luggage. A company would pick up bags from people’s home and use the same computer tracking mechanism that track parcels in transit. Without bags, checking in and security would become much smoother.
Lost bags, and more importantly, baggage theft could also be significantly reduced. Lost bags are the most frequent source of travel insurance policy claims and are becoming an increasing problem.
Labour MP David Marshall commented: “It is abundantly clear that something has to be done to address the current problems plaguing travellers.”
