BA reduces CityFlyer services from London City

British Airways has revealed that it will reduce its CityFlyer service between London City and Edinburgh airports, and that 25 jobs will be cut as a result.
According to the airline, when one of its planes was written off after sustaining damage earlier this year, a “surplus” of cabin and flight crew positions resulted.
In February of this year, a plane arriving from Amsterdam lost its front wheels during a “hard landing” at London City Airport.
The CityFlyer service connecting Edinburgh and London has been reduced from eight to six return daily flights.
A spokeswoman for BA said that staff had been informed of the cutbacks and talks with the unions were being held.
The spokeswoman said the carrier was hopeful that the job cuts could be made through retirement, voluntary redundancies and the conversion of full-time positions to part-time.
She went on to say that passengers on the Edinburgh-London route would still be well-served by flights into Gatwick and Heathrow airports.
The hard landing in February involved a BAE Systems-manufactured Avro RJ100 plane. No serious injuries were reported among the 67 passengers and four crew members on board, who were evacuated via emergency chutes.
