In a new service that will see British Airways flying between London City International Airport and New York City. The Airbus A318 is the ideal aircraft for London City Airport as it is capable of making the steep approach required form this inner-city runway. BA has quite a few orders pending with the French aviation company, including 12 of the double-decker super jumbo Airbus A380s.

The airline makes use of many of Airbus’ smaller planes, and BA’s chief executive officer Willie Walsh says, “The A318 is the perfect aircraft for these flights. It is capable of operating at London City and is large enough for us to provide the number of business class seats required to make this a viable operation.”

This particular model was approved for the steep approach required by the European Aviation Safety Agency, and Airbus Chief Operating Officer John Leahy says, “The A318 shares the same wide cabin as other members of the A320 Family, and offers by far the greatest level of cabin comfort of any aircraft able to fly from London City or similar inner city airports. The aircraft also offers more range, which allows operators to offer new exciting route combinations.”
