BA moves long haul routes to T5
Posted on: June 6th, 2008 by Andrew BonesAlthough the move of eight more of British Airways’ main long haul routes to London Heathrow’s Terminal 5 has been delayed over a month to bypass a busy time, things were still tense as BA moved its flagship flights to Bangalore, Cape Town, Cairo, Beijing Lagos, Abuja and New York to the new terminal building.
The moving house went off without a hitch, and many passengers’ fears were assuaged when they found their baggage was indeed waiting for them when they landed in their destinations. The fact that everything went smoothly speaks volumes for BA’s planning, as the long-haul services use much larger aircraft and seat many more passengers than the domestic flights and flights to the continent that have been operating thus far from T5.
British Airways chief executive Willie Walsh says that the media speculation that was waiting for another fiasco was unfounded, and that reports on the terminal have been biased, noting that aside form a few problems, over 3 million people had so far been processed without incident.
