BA increases fuel surcharge
Posted on: April 30th, 2008 by Andrew BonesBritish Airways announced today that it would be putting into immediate effect, and across the board, a new fuel surcharge on all tickets bought for travel after May 2nd. The airline says that with oil prices topping out in the range of $120 a barrel these days, the fuel surcharge is the only way to turn a profit.
Where short haul flights within the United Kingdom and continental Europe are concerned, an increase of about $12 dollars per round trip can be expected, hiking the total surcharge to $52 per round trip. For long haul flights with a destination outside of Europe, surcharges will jump to anywhere between $40 and $60 per round trip. These latest price hikes mean the total surcharges for British Airways flights over 9 hours long will rise to about $315.
The airline’s statement confirms that these new prices will take effect for flights booked after Friday of this week.
