Automated Document Check procedure put into place
Posted on: August 14th, 2008 by Dave BessA new product has been introduced by Star Alliance that will help passengers determine if they have the correct travel documents that they will need when arriving at their destination based on the travelers itinerary. Singapore Airlines will be the launch partner for the company and several other carriers are set to follow.
Currently this type of process is done manually by a staff member. If the process is not completed and the traveler does not have the correct documentation they could be forced to return to their country upon arrival at their destination.
As immigration policies are being tightened by countries all around the world the auto documented check system makes it easier to ensure that current policy for any given country is being followed appropriately.
A spokesperson for the Auto Document Check system said “For example, a Singapore resident travelling to Australia and then to South Africa with a British passport: Does he need a visa for any part of the journey? With state-of-the-art technology now evaluating the passenger’s travel documents and deciding if the passenger is allowed to travel, Auto Doc Check is taking the guess work out this decision. Once a passenger indicates the documents he plans to carry with him, Auto Doc Check immediately lets him know whether or not he has sufficient and valid documents. This can reduce the number of touch points at the airport, since document checks have already been performed at the first point of check-in.”
Senior Vice President Product and Services for Singapore Airlines, Yap Kim Wah said “In short, our customers will spend less time at the check-in counter, even if his trip takes him through many countries and he can travel with peace of mind that he has all the necessary documents with him”,
