Australia is an in demand destination for UK emigrates.
Posted on: June 27th, 2008 by Dave BessAs the steady stream of people immigrating into the UK has led to the tightening of immigration policy and harsher visa restrictions there are also many UK citizens looking to emigrate overseas.
The reasons for those looking to emigrate appear to be different from person to person with some just wanting to experience a different culture. Others are looking to move abroad in search of a more favorable lifestyle or promise of employment in a country that might be hurting for skilled labor.
One thing is pretty clear for UK citizens. Those looking to emigrate overseas are focusing their attention on Australia. A survey conducted by Manpower revealed that 53% of responders who would consider moving abroad would likely choose to immigrate to Australia. The managing director of Manpower, Mark Cahill, stated that “Australia and New Zealand – two of the most popular places to emigrate to – are booming economies, and people see they need all sorts of skills to help build these countries for the future.”
The good news for the UK is that even though there are a growing number of citizens looking to immigrate to other countries, due to the steady arrival of migrants into the UK the job market will still have a large pool of potential skilled labor to choose from.
Those choosing to immigrate overseas are generally in their twenties and thirties. A professor of economic development, Steve Hill, has theorized that this is because “they are mobile, and many who go become settled and do not come back. They respond to economic opportunities.”
