And the survey says…
Posted on: June 8th, 2007 by Neill ZerkWhat makes someone a good tourist? How can you classify which country has the ‘best’ tourists? The entire concept seems futile at best. Unless that is, if you’re looking at the question of a Hotel’s perspective.
Expedia conducted a survey with over 15,000 European hotel owners and managers to gauge which nationalities they considered to be their best customers based on a series of questions relating to demeanour, cleanliness and spending habits.
Perhaps surprisingly, perhaps not, it was the Japanese who came out on top, with the Americans a close second and the Swiss just nipping at their heels.
There was a 35% gap between the ambassadors from the land of the rising sun and the representatives of Uncle Sam. The Japanese topped out with their tidy, antiseptic habits and overall politeness (compensatory over-tipping was not mentioned).
It seems the stealthy Swiss pleased hoteliers with their quiet dispositions and consideration for staff and other guests.
Any poll with winners will have losers and this was no exception. The worst tourist nation by this reputation was France, with the Russians, Indians and Chinese not far behind on the undesirable scale.
