Air Sylhet to operate from Manchester and Stansted
Posted on: October 30th, 2008 by Doug SmithAn investor group, which has formed the new air carrier, Air Sylhet, has announced the launch of its services from Manchester and Stansted to Dubai, stopping in Vienna.
The businessmen have acknowledged that November’s launch is scheduled at a difficult time in the airline industry, but assert that their new carrier is addressing a poorly-served market segment.
Air Sylhet investors cite their targeting of destinations not well served by other carriers as one of their reasons for optimism.
The new airline will operate service on Mondays and Thursdays from Stansted to Vienna and on to Dubai, and once-weekly service, on Friday, from Manchester to Vienna/Dubai.
All flights will make a stopover of one hour in Vienna, and passengers travelling on to Dubai will be permitted to remain on the aircraft.
Air Sylhet’s inaugural flight is set for 9 November, and will be operated on a leased Airbus A320-200, having a capacity of 180 passengers.
For the first few weeks, seats are reserved for shareholders in the airline, meaning that the first commercial flight open to the public will depart on 4 December.
In addition to Vienna and Dubai, Air Sylhet is planning to launch service to Bangladesh in the coming year.
