Compared to last year, everything involved in taking a trip seems to be more expensive. Hotels, rental cars, airline tickets and least of all petrol, are all costing Americans more each year; but the American Automobile Association says this will not keep people from hitting the road, taking the flight or shacking up in a hotel room.

The director of travel for the AAA in Colorado says, “Travelers are determined to see their loved ones. Many have become resilient to travel challenges.” This is all fine and dandy if you can afford it, but what about the people that spending a few hundred dollars more on a holiday will prove to be a prohibitive thing?

“I can’t afford gas, hotels and presents at the same time. Travel costs are really prohibitive this year,” said Elaine Fierstone, who cancelled her trip out of state to visit her family.

Ms. Firestone is not alone either, Dave Iles says, “Absolutely, I think the prices are affecting travel plans. Everything has gone up, and the dollar is devalued, which is killing the economy. A lot of people I know are staying closer to home this year, including me.”
