The advent of the superjumbo has been a long time coming. Both Boeing and Airbus are set to launch their next generation planes into commercial circulation very soon. After a world tour test of the Airbus A380, The behemoth jet will have its inaugural take-off on October 25 with the first airline to put it to use, Singapore Airlines.

The flight form Singapore to Sydney, Australia will be a historic event in the travel industry, and people with the means have paid through the nose to be part of it. The most recent person to do so is British man based in Sydney, who paid £50,000 for a suite class cabin.

Julian Hayward will occupy one of twelve cabins in ‘suite class’  that contain both a seat and a double bed. The cabins are on average 40 to 80 percent more costly than a first class ticket on a Boeing 747.

The jet will commence regular service between Singapore and Sydney next Sunday, with the price one-way in a cabin coming in at £3,500. As more A380s come into service, Singapore Airlines’ next route with the superjumbo will be to London Heathrow.
