2007 was a very good year for Hong Kong
Posted on: January 11th, 2008 by Dave BessTourism in Hong Kong is on the up, with an increase in visitors of over 10 percent compared to 2006, which means 28 million people chose the island of former British territory as their vacation destination.
Part of the new boom is due to China’s growing middle class, and it’s not only Hong Kong that’s seing a boom in domestic tourism. Now as an official part of China, Hong Kong is accepting massive amounts of tourists not only from international locations but form the vast population of mainland China itself.
Hon James Tien, chairman of the Hong Kong tourism board says, “We’re especially encouraged that besides the strong performance of Mainland China, the growth was spread across different international markets, with all three long-haul regions exceeding their 2006 levels and many of our key source markets achieving their best results ever.
The prospects for 2008 look positive, although we know we’re up against even more intense competition. We’ll continue our effort to achieve a balance of visitors from all key markets, in keeping with Hong Kong’s cosmopolitan image, and grow the high-yield segments. “
With such growth in travel sectors, one can only wonder wat new records 2008 will bring.
