However, Dubrovnik is also a great place to visit during the winter months. Although few people know about this, the city of Dubrovnik has many attractions to offer visitors during the winter months.

When winter time comes, several festivities and events will be held in the city of Dubrovnik to celebrate the country’s culture. One of these events is the Masquerade. The Masquerade is a pre-Holy Week celebration in Dubrovnik that is held after the festivities of the St. Blaise Festival and before the Ash Wednesday celebration of Lent. The Masquerade is celebrated for three days in the city of Dubrovnik. For many of the devout Catholics in the city, the Masquerade is a time for complete celebration before they prepare for the penitence and abstinence days of the Holy Week. This event is truly an amazing way to experience the city and its customs.

During the Masquerade, the Stradun in Dubrovnik becomes crowded with thousands of revelers. This popular street is filled with costumed people dressed up as clowns, courtesans, Domins, Pierrots, gypsies and other exotic and wild personalities. The image is one that you may not see anywhere else in the world and the people ot Dubrovnik take it very seriously. The festival culminates on the night of the third day with the closing carnival night. This carnival is considered the climax of the Masquerade festivities.
