Easter in Dubrovnik

For many visitors to the city of Dubrovnik, it is easy to see that the city is devoted to Catholicism. This should come as no surprise as the country of Croatia is well known for its Catholic roots. This is the reason why many of the most popular attractions in the city of Dubrovnik are related to the much celebrated religion of the country.

One of the most important celebrations of the Catholic religion is Easter. In the city of Dubrovnik, the celebration of Easter is also considered one of the grandest events of the year. Therefore, if you are visiting the city during the time of Easter, you can experience the tremendous joy that the city experiences during the event.

Easter is essentially a celebration of rebirth. After days of fasting and abstinence during the Holy Week, on Easter Day, the city explodes into celebration. During the Easter celebrations, the people of Dubrovnik attend special masses in the city’s churches. Most of the people attending the special Easter masses wear interesting traditional costumes. The men wear large, baggy trousers and pillbox hats and women wear voluminous skirts and very big hats. During Easter, visitors to the city of Dubrovnik can really feel the celebration in the air. This is truly a special time to visit the city: it comes alive with the festivities.

Easter in Dubrovnik is celebrated with decorated eggs that are painted in bright and wild colors. Semisweet miniature bread loaves are baked and served. After the Easter masses, families in Dubrovnik will go to some of the popular spots of the city to continue the celebrations.
