Tvärbanan - Light Rail Line In Stockhalm’s
There is a light rail line that covers many of Stockholm’s transportation needs in fringe areas. Stockholm’s light rail lines are called the “Tvärbanan,” and it has not only the traditional tunnels and elevated sections, but also traditional tram style of rails on the streets. This is one of the best public transportation systems in all of Europe, if you look at the total length of rail lines (the T-bana, commuter rail and light rail lines) as compared to the relatively low number of inhabitants. Also, with Stockholm being set on several islands, it adds special considerations to the issue of transportation.
The system has three lines, and there are plans in place to expand it further. The extension will make it run to Slussen, which will be important to the south side of Stockholm’s centre. The Tvärbanan shares some cars with the Nockebybanan rail line. They also share a depot.
Traveling by light rail is a great way to get around in Stockholm, whether as a commuter or as a visitor. The trains are well situated and easily accessed. There are a couple of trips you might want to schedule time for. First, ride on the “Lidingöbanan.” This train goes to the wonderful island of Lidingö by way of an older bridge. This line has also been extended recently to serve a new housing project on the other side of the island. You will also want to go for a ride on the “Djurgårdslinjen.” It is a line designed for tourists, known as Tramline 7, which runs from the centre of Stockholm to the island of Djurgården. This island houses many museums, including the famous open air museum, Skansen.
